Our Vision

The Equity Institute of St. Petersburg is an emerging economic development organization created by the leadership teams of The 2020 Plan, Inc. and the One Community Plan, who have lead advocacy and implementation of important economic equity advancements in St. Petersburg since 2004.

By fostering collective approaches to positive change, Equity Institute founders and partners have galvanized innovations that include:

  • Agenda 2010, a six-year advocacy campaign that inspired the creation of the South St. Petersburg Community Redevelopment Area
  • The 2020 Plan, a seven-year collective impact initiative supported by over 100 organizations and credited with helping to achieve historic rates of Black poverty reduction in St. Petersburg (e.g., from 2014 to 2019, African Americans reduced their poverty rate and grew their earnings twice as fast as peers across Florida and the nation)
  • The E3 Strategy (formerly the $10 Million Capital Quest), a five-year collaboration to build an equity-focused entrepreneurial ecosystem in St. Petersburg, that rallied the partnership of 20 core organizations who helped 840 entrepreneurs with business growth and capital access services
  • Sankofa on the Deuces & Deuces Rising, an historic partnership between the City of St. Petersburg that will bring new commercial and housing development to the Deuces, and create a new Development Fund to speed development along the Deuces and other major corridors

The impact of the Equity Institute is and always has been the product of partnership. Click here for a partial list of organizations responsible for the successes credited to the Institute’s collective impact initiatives.

The Equity Institute is fiscally and operationally housed at the Pinellas County Urban League.
